National Geographic recently released its list of the top 25 travel destinations worldwide for 2025, and among them, Brașov stands out as the only city in Romania to be included in this ranking. The magazine highlights, “From luxury train journeys through Malaysia to hikes on an active volcano in Guatemala, explore the must-visit destinations of the year, carefully chosen by National Geographic explorers, photographers, and editors.”

“The medieval city of Brașov serves as the gateway to the Transylvania region, a land of ancient forests, rustic villages, and the peaks of the Carpathians. And with its new airport – Romania’s first in the last 50 years – Dracula’s homeland is more accessible than ever. Explore the region along the Via Transilvanica, a hiking trail completed in 2022 that stretches 870 miles from the Ukrainian border to the Danube River. The trail’s Terra Saxonum section passes through Saxon villages and the 12th-century UNESCO World Heritage site of Sighișoara, while the Terra Dacica section winds through vineyards and Dacian fortresses,” describes National Geographic.

In the National Geographic list of the top 25 travel destinations for 2025, alongside Brașov are a variety of extraordinary locations, each offering something unique and special. Here are a few of the most notable:

•Antigua, Guatemala: A city famous for its well-preserved colonial architecture and authentic, history-rich atmosphere.

•Ocala Forest, Florida, USA: A region full of biodiversity, with vast forests and opportunities for exploring wild nature.

•Raja Ampat, Indonesia: A paradise for diving enthusiasts, known for its coral reefs and spectacular marine life.

•Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: A destination that combines traditional Arabic heritage with modernity, offering impressive cultural and architectural diversity.

•Stockholm Archipelago, Sweden: A collection of peaceful islands where natural beauty abounds, providing an ideal escape from urban hustle.

Brașov’s inclusion in this prestigious list reflects Romania’s high tourism potential, showcasing its rich cultural, historical, and natural wealth.
